WeBoost Cell Phone Signal Booster – Long Term Review – Is it worth it for Overlanding?

So, you may ask yourself, why would anyone need a cell phone signal booster when they’re trying to get away from everything in the wilderness. And I would agree with you. However, let me tell you a story that might explain why I made this investment.

I was out in the middle of my local national forest when my phone buzzed. I got a text from my wife that our new puppy had possibly eaten a pill. Then I tried to reply and the text wouldn’t go through. I started wandering around camp with my phone held high trying to find enough signal to get an outgoing message out or to receive an update from my wife to no avail.

Eventually another message came through that she wasn’t sure if it was the dog or the cat, so she was taking both to the emergency vet. Well, I started freaking out because I was worried about the animals (and the pending vet bill that the emergency vet would generate). However, I was unable to get in touch and had to wait until I left the next day to connect with my wife. The bill was enormous, but the animals were fine.

After that experience, I decided that if something were to happen to one of my kids or my pets and I couldn’t communicate, that would be a deal breaker. So, I started researching options. I liked the idea of the Garmin InReach, but I didn’t like the additional expense of the subscription you have to pay for. So, I ended up getting the Wilson WeBoost.

To show you real world data on how it works, I made the below video. I’ll break it down in a way that will hopefully help you make a decision on whether this is a good purchase for you or not based on your needs and trips.

If you have any questions or feedback, definitely post up in the comments of the video.
